assessment services

Our psychological assessments are tailored to provide a deeper understanding of your child's cognitive, academic, social, emotional, behavioural, and/or adaptive functioning.  All of our assessments are overseen by doctoral level registered clinical psychologists with extensive education and training in assessment and clinical diagnosis.  We offer comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations as well as more targeted giftedness assessments.

psychoeducational assessment

A psychoeducational or "psych-ed" assessment is a formal evaluation of your child's cognitive abilities, executive functioning, academic skills, and social, emotional, behavioural, and adaptive functioning. A psychoeducational assessment can clarify whether giftedness, a learning disorder (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia), intellectual disability, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or other social, emotional, or behavioural concern may be impacting your child's functioning.  We charge a flat rate of $2860 for psychoeducational assessments, with an additional fee for classroom observations when needed. Please note that there is often a 1 - to 3 -month wait list for psychoeducational assessments. Once started, the entire process requires 4 to 6 weeks, on average, to complete.

giftedness assessment

An IQ score at or above the 98th percentile is required for admission to Westmount Charter School and the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program offered by the Calgary Board of Education. While a psychoeducational assessment also provides an IQ score, some children do not require such a comprehensive evaluation. If you are unsure whether a psychoeducational or giftedness assessment is most appropriate, reach out and we would be happy to help determine the best course of action. Once your child's IQ score has been calculated, next steps may include: provision of a summary letter (non-gifted), report (gifted and interested in Westmount Charter), and/or additional academic testing (gifted and interested in GATE). Gifted assessments start at $1100.
