Dissociation

Dissociation involves feeling disconnected from thoughts, emotions, memories, or surroundings and is often linked to overwhelming stress or trauma. People may describe feeling numb, detached, unreal, or “checked out.” Therapy can help when dissociation interferes with daily functioning or emotional connection. Treatment focuses on safety, grounding skills, emotional regulation, and trauma-informed care.
